Problems
with constipation are common. Stress, lack
of exercise, during treatment certain medications,
especially pain medication, and inadequate fluid
or fiber intake may all be contributing factors
to constipation.
-
Drink
lots of fluid and include more fiber in your
diet.
-
Eat
raw fruits and vegetables, especially those
with skins and seeds. Dried fruits such as
raisins, prunes and dates can provide bulk
to your diet.
-
Dried
beans, peas, lentils and nuts are high-fiber
foods, and also serve as a meat alternative.
-
Whole
grain breads and cereals add fiber to your
diet.
-
These
include bran, shredded wheat, high-fiber
snack foods. Sesame breadsticks, datenut
bread, oatmeal cookies, Fig Newtons,
and popcorn.
-
Often
increasing your food intake would
be the most beneficial.
-
Try
to drink at least 8-10 glasses of
liquid in the form of water or juice
daily.
-
Take
walks and exercise regularly, but check with
your physician before making any drastic changes
in your exercise routine. Try to get as much
light exercise as your condition will allow.
-
Minimize
your caffeine intake.
