Condition:
Nausea and Vomiting
Ask
your doctor to help you find the most effective medication
regimen to prevent or control the nausea and vomiting
during treatment. Often these medications are more
effective if taken before the symptoms occur.
-
Eat
small frequent meals throughout the day.
-
Eat
slowly and chew well. Try crackers, toast,
broth or soup to curb nausea, especially after
periods of rest.
-
Sip liquids slowly through a straw. They may be
better tolerated if you do not have to smell them,
especially as your sense of taste may change from
hour to hour or day to day. Clear beverages are
often better tolerated as well.
-
Eat
mildly seasoned foods.
-
-
Avoid
liquids with meals. Take your liquids 30 minutes
to an hour before or after meals.
-
Avoid
foods with a strong odor. Instead, try foods
such as cottage cheese, chicken salad, potatoes,
macaroni and cheese, applesauce, plain rice or
sugared rice, vanilla ice cream, sherbet, pretzels,
canned fruit, cereals, yogurt or whatever appeals
to you at the time.
